Hi Reader, I have something exciting to share with you:) Let's start with our newsletter, Last year, one of my Accelerator students sent me a message in January: “I think I messed up. I’ve applied to 150 roles. Two interviews. Both rejected. I don’t know if I’m built for this.” He had:
And still… zero traction. Let me tell you what actually changed his trajectory. A system shift. Phase 1: The Ego CrashWhen he landed in the U.S., he thought:
Reality check? 150 applications → 0 offers This is where most people spiral. Instead, we rebuilt from scratch. Phase 2: Warm Networking (Strategic, Not Desperate)Before most students even land, they start applying blindly. He did something different. He spoke to 40+ product managers before classes even started. Not for referrals. For intelligence. He asked:
He learned something brutal: Some cohorts of 200 students had only 3 PM interns. This changed his expectations. This is why I tell Accelerator students: If you don’t know the hiring math, you are playing blind. Phase 3: Resume Identity ShiftHe had a pure engineering resume. 99% model accuracy. Great engineer. We rebuilt it through a product lens. Instead of: It became: Same work. You must become the role before you get the role. Most students try to “transition” without transforming. That does not work anymore. Phase 4: Post-Application Networking (The Real Edge)Here’s what separated him. After applying daily, he didn’t just wait. He:
Every day. Result? Faster rejections. One short email later helped move him from software screening to product screening at the same company. That email changed his career. Most of you are applying. The Breaking PointIn January, after final-round rejection, he had a panic attack. Not because of visa pressure. Because expectations collapsed. This is the invisible part no one posts on LinkedIn. We talked about one thing: “You are not failing. Your strategy is incomplete.” So we pivoted. He started applying to ML roles again as backup. Confidence came back. Offers started coming. And something interesting happened… When desperation left, performance improved. He eventually landed:
One seat. The Lesson For YouStop romanticizing:
Start engineering:
Inside the Accelerator, this is exactly what we build:
Because mindset without mechanics is useless. If you are serious about playing at this level, More in the next newsletter - I’ll break down how he converted 1 seat out of 1000 applicants. – Yudi J P.S. If you’re already applying and not seeing traction, you don’t need more motivation. |
